Playing a game of cricket is an exciting affair but if the necessary precautions are taken then the fun undoubtedly doubles. Whether one is fielding, batting or wicket keeping, there are chances of getting hurt in the vulnerable areas. Though many players are known to have long career with no injuries, still others may have to face the occasional hits, sprains, or bruises in the field. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the players facing the ball must wear a proper helmet.
- A head injury can be light or severe and can be highly dangerous in most cases so protection for the head is a must.
- It is the responsibility of the umpire, coaches, managers as well as teachers to ensure that young players don a helmet before taking to the game.
- Other protective items include abdominal protectors, pads and gloves to minimize any injuries.
- As per the guidelines issued by the ECB, players up to the age of 18 must wear a helmet and this even goes for adult players and junior-level cricket players as well.
For Young Cricketers: A Little Advice ;
- Fitting of the Cricket Helmet is very crucial and you should wear a new one as often as you can while practicing, to get used to it.
- To adjust in a better way, players can wear a sweatband/cap the opposite way and also adjust the chin strap ensuring that it is secure.
- Adjust of Faceguard is very crucial and players must take care that there isn’t enough space for the cricket ball to go through the Cricket Helmet and Faceguard.
- Players under the age of 13 years should play with a ball sized smaller than a normal one and ensure that the Helmet is fixed tightly to prevent the movement of faceguard.
- Players should not continuously wear Cricket Helmets and should let themselves cool off by taking them off once in a while. Fluids should also be taken at proper intervals to maintain the body heat.
- For players enrolled in clubs or those who play in schools it is the best option to try on and find the one the Cricket Helmet which fits them perfectly.
- Proper care of the Helmet should be taken at all times so that it is in top condition to provide safety when a ball hits.
Protective Information :
- While wearing a Cricket Helmet, ensure that it is firm and fits comfortably while allowing no forward, backward or side-to-side movement.
- Secure the chin padding so that it stays in the same position at all times while playing.
- Helmet should not be lent to other players
Instructions For Taking Care Of Your Helmet :
- In case the White Fiber Glass gets stained, then clean it gently by wiping downwards using a soft Cloth/ Sponge soaked in mild detergent and lukewarm water.
- To clean the Cloth Cover you can use a mild detergent in lukewarm water and a soft Bristol Brush to gently rub away the stains.
- Helmet should be replaced in case of severe damage
- Keep in a dry environment away from direct sun light
Replacement Instructions :
- In case the Helmets are damaged in any of the following ways, you should get it immediately replaced.
- In case it is heavily impacted by an object
After prolonged use and impacts from Cricket balls - In case it is stretched very badly
- If the fitting is not proper
Warning :
- A Helmet should not be used in case its shell is deformed or cracked. Also The interior padding should also be in top condition
- If Helmet is fitted with Poly Carbonate ear guards, then aerosol based sprays should be avoided for cleaning purpose.
